Paul Motian is a jazz drummer who gained recognition through his work with the Bill Evans Trio on such albums as Sunday at The Village Vanguard. He was also a member of the Keith Jarret Quartet along with Charlie Haden and Dewey Redman. He has made some of the most notable explorations of rubato in jazz music. He has worked extensivley in a trio featuring saxophonist Joe Lovano and Bill Frisell in a series of albums for ECM records
