Born Martin David Robinson on September 26, 1925, near Glendale, Arizona, Marty Robbins died on December 8, 1982 at the age of 57, due to surgical complications. He was an American Country & Western Hall of Fame musician and one of the most popular and successful country singers of his era. Several of his songs became pop hits as well. Robbins served in the United States Navy as an LCT coxswain during World War II.
