The Melodians are considered one of the greatest of the original rocksteady bands from Jamaica. They consist of Trevor McNaughton, Tony Brevett, Brent Dowe, and Renford Cogle and were formed in 1963. Brent Dowe and Trevor McNaughton wrote the song "Rivers Of Babylon" which is based on Psalm 137:1. The song became famous after being featured on the soundtrack for the movie, The Harder They Come. It has been covered many times most famously by Boney M. in 78, but also by Sublime in the 90's.
