Rio en Medio (Danielle Stech-Homsy) is a half-Syrian, half-Ukrainian dancer who's fluent in Russian, and a scholar of Russian literature. She also records as Rio en Medio; making quiet, atmospheric, otherworldly takes on freak-folk. Her first LP, 2007's The Bride of Dynamite, found collaborations with Jana Hunter, CocoRosie, and Vetiver, and was released on Devendra Banhart's Gnomonsong label. Her second record, the foggy Frontier, was recorded in isolation in New Mexico.
