Dave Alvin and his older brother Phil grew up loving Americana, country and blues. In 1979 they formed The Blasters with friends Bill Bateman and John Bazz. After Dave Alvin served as a respected member of the 1980s Los Angeles punk scene, especially its rockabilly and cowpunk strains, with his genre-crossing guitar playing for The Blasters, The Flesh Eaters, X and the Knitters, he started a solo career.
