David Garrick was born Philip Darryl Core in Liverpool in 1946. His school choir master discovered his singing talents, characterised by a rich powerful voice which extended beyond two octaves.
David was encouraged by his choir master to take up opera singing.
However, the British pop scene of the swinging sixties proved too tempting and David achieved instant success with his first recording "Dear Mrs Applebee"in 1966. He adopted the stage name David Garrick from a British stage actor of the 17th century.
