The Georgia Cotton Pickers was a short-lived band that recorded in 1930. The band’s best-known releases were “Diddle-Da-Diddle” (their version of Blind Blake’s song) and “I’m On My Way Down Home” (a re-do of The Mississippi’s Sheiks’ “Sitting On Top of the World”). The group consisted of Robert “Barbecue Bob” Hicks, his brother Charlie Hicks, Eddie Mapp, Curley Weaver and Buddy Moss.
The Georgia Cotton Pickers’ recording sessions would be the last done by Barbecue Bob, who died in 1931. Eddie Mapp died the same year.
