Fila Brazillia are from Kingston Upon Hull in East Yorkshire in the UK. They were formed in 1990 by Steve Cobby and David McSherry. Their name is explained thus: When Dave "Pork" Brennand of Pork Recordings (also Hull-based) asked them to release a track of theirs, the media's "killer dog frenzy" was in full swing and a breed known as the Fila Brasileiro was the subject of a debate in the House of Commons. This was misheard on the radio by Steve, proposed and accepted for the single and eventually the name stuck. The track Mermaids was Fila Brazillia's first single, released in Spring 1991.
