Jo Ann Campbell, born 20th July 1938 in Jacksonville, Florida began attending music school at age 4, winning honors as a drum majorette at Fletcher High School. In 1954 she travelled Europe as a dancer, then to New York, where she joined the Johnny Conrad Dancers, making tv appearances on Milton Berle, Ed Sullivan and Colgate Comedy Hour. In 1956, she decided to concentrate on becoming a singer. She won her first recording contract with RKO-Point Records in New York and released her debut single "Where Ever You Go" / "I'm Coming Home Late Tonight" in 1956.
