Earl Johnson (born August 24, 1886 Gwinnett County, Georgia - died May 31, 1965) was an old time fiddler who was very much influenced by the music of Gid Tanner and his Skillet Lickers. Robert Earl Johnson learned to play the fiddle from an early age. When he was young, he used to practice together with his siblings, Albert and Ester. In 1923, he joined Fiddlin' John Carson's Virginia Reelers and within two years, he made his first recordings on Paramount Records. As the leader of the Dixie Entertainers, he recorded with guitarist Byrd Moore and banjoist Emmett Bankston.
