Coaltar of the Deepers are a shoegaze band from Tokyo, Japan. They formed in May 1991. While staying true to the alternative shoegaze sound, they have covered many musical elements throughout their career (such as death metal to techno) and have a very devoted fanbase. They are also known for their Prince, The Cure, and My Bloody Valentine covers. In early 1991, the band was formed in Tokyo by front-man Narasaki.
