Guitarists John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana collaborated on the album Love Devotion Surrender, which was released in 1973.
The band on this album was made up of members of each of their bands (at that time Santana and The Mahavishnu Orchestra):
Michael Shrieve, Billy Cobham, Doug Rauch, Armando Peraza, Jan Hammer, and Don Alias. In addition, organist Larry Young (under the name Khalid Yasin), who collaborated with McLaughlin in the Tony Williams Lifetime band, was a crucial member of the band.
