Formed in 2001, this incarnation of the John Scofield Band featured drummer Adam Deitch, guitarist Avi Bortnick, and bassist Jesse Murphy. The foursome toured and recorded "Uberjam," which was released in January 2002 on Verve Records. The subsequent record, "Up All Night" (released in May 2003, also on Verve) featured Scofield, Deitch, and Bortnick together again, joined by Andy Hess on bass guitar. This particular band is notable for being one of Scofield's only two-guitar ensembles, a decision he says was largely due to his wife and manager Susan Scofield's enthusiasm for the idea.
