Lianne La Havas was born August 23, 1989, in south London. Her father's family was Greek, her mother's Jamaican.[1] Growing up in London, La Havas' first interest in music came from her family. Her mother would listen to artists such as Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige, while her father was a multi-instrumentalist who taught her the basics of how to play the guitar and the keyboard. She wrote her first song at the age of 11 but didn’t learn to play the guitar properly until she was 18 years old.
