Circle of Birds was a one-off collaboration between Johnathon Ford of instrumental post-rock band Unwed Sailor), shoegaze band Ester Drang, and members of a little-known Oklahoma country band named Lasso. They had been friends while living in Oklahoma and, though they now lived in different parts of the United States, they had kept in touch over the years and decided to collaborate on a CD. In a practice room at the University of Tulsa in 2001, they recorded partially-planned, partially-improvised pieces over the span of two days.
