The President Series began as a home-recording project in 1999. Starting with Clinton and continuing in reverse order, all recordings are named and numbered according to past U.S. Presidents. This system was originally created to avoid the band name, album name, and album art baggage that goes along with recording music. But then the band name became Maxel Toft (pseudonym), the album name continued as a numbering system (see Soul Junk/Sufjan Stevens/Led Zeppelin), and album art is obsolete (for most consumers).
