Zs was formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2000. Zs makes music that is variously categorized as no-wave, post-jazz, brutal-chamber, brutal-prog, and post minimalist. Zs' music is angular, repetitive, and either very loud or very soft. While Zs has gone through several incarnations ranging from trios to sextets, the group is now solidifying into the quartet formation of Sam Hillmer (tenor saxophone), Ben Greenberg (electric guitar), Amnon Freidlin (electric guitar), and Ian Antonio (drum set). Zs is often recognized for its dual function as chamber ensemble and rock band.
