The Thought was formed in 1982. Most of the band had been in the New Wave band The Rousers. The band still relied on it's 60's influences but added psychedelics and bombast. They were featured on a popular late night underground segment on MTV in 1983 with the song "Maggie McCall". They were an instrumental 'transition band' from the poppy mod-like new wave sound of the early 80s to the darker and more complex sounds of the late 80s.
