Bascom Lamar Lunsford is famous for having collected and memorised over 300 songs - much of which is preserved at Smithhsonian Institute. Born the son of a school teacher Lunsford's travels as a fruit tree salesman drew him to the Appalachian mountains where he collected songs from those he met along the way. His banjo music is varied and ranges from songs about presidential assassinations to sea songs about mermaids , but within is encapsulated a lost and forgotten world.
